1)In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Music Video

1. This in a way is an establishing shot of how the girl is feeling and probably going to be throughout the music video, this challenges forms and conventions of other music video's such as Lily Allen's Music video smile. This video opens with Lily eating chocolate which immediately gives the idea that she is going to be depressed, and the song is going to be about something that has hurt her. My Music video does this too, as the first shots of her show she is depressed. This shot also shows it is set in the morning.

2. For my music Video, I wanted to bisect it into a storyline and a studio of the artist singing. Many real music video editors do not tend to use this form in the pop genre, it is more recognized in the rock genre, for example rock artists such as Paramore and The fratelli. My Music video challenges the pop genre as it is unusual and different. However, the music artist in my studio wears a black dress which shows up against the white background, this is similar to Music video used for Beyonce Knowles' music video single ladies.

3.This shot shows that the girl is depressed about something in the music video. This again challenges Lily Allen's Music video smile as she too eats chocolate in the video to show depression.

4.This shows that i have related the lyrical narrative to the song but this is the only link to weather throughout the video as my narrative is more the start of a new day and relationship of a boy and girl getting back together ( The boy is Mr Blue Sky).

5.This is a flashback the girl thinks of when she had an argument with her boyfriend( Mr Blue Sky). Many real life music videos use flashback.

6. Again, when the lyrics say 'Mr Blue Sky' ( Which is usually the chorus) I got my actress to make out she was drawing mr blue sky's name with hearts, I have noticed that many music videos such as Sugar babes 'Ugly' , However I challenged this by words with the lyrics in a different way as it also shows that the girl is interested in the boy 'Mr Blue Sky' whereas sugar babes just write the words of lyrics.

7. The zoom- in of lips are often used in music videos. They are more common in the pop and r&b genre. I chose to use glitter for a sparkle effect and added sun rays to it from Adobe After effects.

8.In this part of my music video I have matched my imagery with the lyrics. The lyrics go ' A celebration' and at the same time my actress drinks out of the blue bottle. ( the blue bottle again refers to the title) this challenges forms of real life music videos is commonly used.

9. A two shot is often used in many music videos. The same thing recorded is also followed on with different shots with different angles. This is what I did , I used a side shot first then this two shot.

10. For this shot, I have used freeze framing in Adobe Premier pro and After effects. I did not find any music videos that use this technique, but I found out that hp have a couple of adverts using this effect. This means I am challenging real media products as I have been different from other music videos and used an effect which has only been shown in Adverts.

11. For this show, I have used Green Screen. There is a music video that uses this effect which is 'Ready for the weekend" by Calvin Harris.

12. Many other music videos include fireworks, My music video is similar to them.

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Please note that the order of text in the video is different to the text on here. The best evaluation is on the video

Hello , I’m Amy and I have chosen the song Mr Blue Sky by Lily Allen. The song was orignally from a band called Elo, but I wanted to use lily Allen’s version in order to catch a young target audience in today’s music industry.

I wanted to guide my image of the music video away from the obvious, such as weather. But at the beginning I did make one link, with the girls dancing with umbrellas simply to contrast happyness with the girl’s depression. Also I wanted it to focus more on the relationship between a girl and boy not the weather.

My music video starts with a girl looking rather depressed and lazing around her bedroom, she had an argument with her boyfriend and they possibly have broken up. There are constant flash backs of her and her boyfriend happy together and the not so good times of them argueing. I wanted to have a studio side to my music video as well as a story. But not many music of my genre put both of these together, its mainly r&b and rock that do this, so I decided to challenge the pop genre by taking ideas from other genres. I also created two contrasting shots to keep the audience interested.

In my music video I often used links to the colour blue and the name ‘Mr Blue Sky’ for example, when the girl is lazing about in her room, she is thinking about her boyfriend, mr blue sky while writing his name with love hearts at the same time, whichj a typical young girl would be likely to do. I also used blue glitter on my lips for the lip shots to again relate back to the colour blue. I added the sun rays effect in after effects to make the glitter look more glittery and appealing for extra effect. I later on add this effect again to a waterfall.

My video then shows the girl trying to forget and start a new day by getting up and doing every day activities. And around this time my audience is introduced to the boy doing his everyday things such as jogging.

Later on they bump in to each other and forgive eachother. It’s a new day and they have started a fresh with the relationship and are a couple again. They have fun together, chat and have a meal together.

My music video is for the pop genre based on the cheerful beat to the song and the colours and tone in my music video.Even though the beginning Is based on a girl depressed at the beginning the colours and the the tone in my music video still show it’s in the pop genre.

This is why for my Digital pack and Digital pack advert, I decided to stick with the bright colours and the blue glitter from the lips. I used the colours blue and the red so it was a variety of colours and not just blue. I also stuck to two colours a so I did not look over the top. Audiences will be able to see the connection of the digipack and advertisement compared to the music video, due to the use of glitter, and I have put many pictures in both digipack and advertisement of the female protagonist.

I used a variety of locations in my music video such as sitting on haystacks, kitchen, bedrooms, and streets to keep my audience interested and to show that it’s a modern music video.

Towards the end of my music video, I used more special effects such as green screen and freeze framing. This appealed to me and I discovered that freezeframing is mainly used for adverts like hp. But I did find one music video, which does fit into the pop genre which is.

I used freeze-framing to show the girl remising and not wanting to argue with the boy anymore, so when the lyrics say ‘I remember you this way’ she is holding the frame with him pulling a silly face. Meaning she wants to have laughs with him again and not argue.

Also when I used green screen, I used it so she was looking through a photo album again reminising of the amazing day she has had with him.

To conclude, through the public feedback and my views I feel as if I have met up the expectations of a professional music video and I have displayed the editing techniques within my video made on premier pro. I feel as if I have used a range of different shots in my video as well as good standard of lip miming. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome.
